Pregnant wife... protective layer over belly?

Hey all,

Wife works in a field where aggressive behaviours can happen.

I’m looking to build a device which will act as a protective layer around her belly. I’m hoping it would mitigate a strike.

Any ideas of what a good material would be? E.g. hard plastic?
