Help: Vinyl Siding Knee Wall Around Screened Porch

finally getting around to renovating my screened in porch. it is ground level and on a cement pad. i've removed the screens, removed the railing, and replaced the problematic 4x4s. the plate is still well mounted to the cement and in good shape. so i've basically got a pavilion at this point.

i have a few squares of siding that matches the rest of my house i was hoping to incorporate into a knee-wall around the porch, then screen the rest. i'm having trouble figuring out how to marry up the vinyl to the 4x4s.

the problem i foresee is that the sheathing will stick out 1/2" from the 4x4, leaving an area for water to collect/seep into the wall. hopefully my mspaint skills illustrate this issue well enough.

the only solution i've been able to come up w/ so far is to slap a trim peice of wood on the outside of the 4x4. this will theoretically bring the exterior surface of the 4x4 out past the sheathing, but still requires some fancy caulking to be water tight.

edit: i found this guy/gal's porch to be basically the same starting point as mine. you can see he didn't address this issue (he should have added a sill at the very least) and his knee wall is susceptible to water leakage. https://imgur.com/gallery/yTYJH

help!
