A complete DIY'er here. Deck (and railing) was in place for 14 years no problem. I wanted a slight remodel so I removed the railing and put in what I thought was identical (Pine 90x35mm from memory). Base coast of paint, top coast. Lots of rain in Sydney and now the underside is literally covered in thick black mold.
Is this a case of just really severe moisture or did I do something wrong. I feel I did something wrong either in prep or materials because surely in 14 years mold would've appeared on the older stuff? All other posts, joists, deck etc was not replaced (just repainted) and they've suffered no issue. Could the timber I used be the issue? It was brand new from Mitre10.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
