How do I cut off a thick piece of plastic?

I am trying cut the monitor stand connector off the monitor.

The purpose is to fit the monitor into a frame I built. The monitor itself fits depth wise, but the stand connector sticks out.

This guy is suggesting heating up a knife and cutting through it. But it kind of looks iffy. Will it work?

I also have a miter saw, but I am afraid it's going to crack the plastic.

So what are good ways to cut the monitor stand connector off?
