get rid of freeze thaw before building a ground level deck

New to Reddit, hopefully I'm in the right section. Have a question regarding building a deck and freeze thaw.

I have an area 16x8 that is currently grass. There is a spot in this area that is about 4x4 which is affected by freeze thaw and the ground lifts up half a foot each spring. I would like to put in a ground level deck (wood) in that entire area.

My approach is that I dig up the entire area a foot deep. I cover the area in crushed stone to allow for drainage. I will then place my concrete post bases for the deck and so on. Do you guys/gals think that I need to dig deeper to ensure that I dont get freeze thaw in that spot. I dont want my deck being lifted in the spring. Would you suggest anything else? Thank you.
