Mounting a TV: Can I attach the mount to two vertical 2x4s and then attach those to a horizontal board that is attached to two studs?

Basically I had a TV I had wall mounted on the shown ledger board crossing two studs.

The new TV mount I want to use (for the new TV) has a 4 point wall mount.

Can I attach two pieces of wood vertically to the current board, and then attach the wall mount to it? Or will that be dangerous/unstable? For reference the TV weighs about 60 lbs but the new mount is a pull down mount.
