I'm trying to replace a simple (not 3-way) light switch with the Lutron Caseta Smart Switch (non-dimmer version). The instructions differentiate between the hot and load wire.
My wires are both black (instead of black and red), and I don't have a device to test the wires. I've been doing some reading and watching videos, and some seem to care about figuring out which one is the hot one and which one is the load one.
So I'm curious: 1) Does it really matter? Some articles say the hot wire term is used interchangeably with load wire and line wire. 2) If it does matter, what happens if I accidentally connect the wrong wire to the Smart Switch? Does the light just not work or do I run a risk of an electrical fire or some other issue?
Thanks!
