Installing Attic Insulation Questions

Skip to questions if you don't care about the background. This is my first post here so let me know if you need any further information or clarification.

I have a hip roof I believe. House was built in the 50s. The clearance is quite low in the attic. My home owner inspection pointed out the previous baffles had broke over time (cheap plastic).

The roof rafter spacing is very unique and variable. I bought 14", 22", 24", and 12". Nothing fit nicely, I believe they are between 18" 20". I used the 12" because they were foam and had cones to prevent pressing and blocking. However, they do not span the entire space so in the end insulation will touch the roof sheath since the slope is so low. The plan is to blow in +18" of cellulose. I am going to install another 1/2 to full baffle to achieve this level so that means at least 4 ft of roof sheath, around the entire roof, will contact insulation.

I installed baffles in every rafter and while doing so, I pushed the current loose fill insulation against the base of the baffle to fill the remaining air gaps and snug the baffle into place. Basically, there is no gap between the top of the wall beam and the roof sheath.

Little background: I have installed insulation incorrectly in my garage roof a year ago and I saw how the heat transfered to the outside of the roof by looking at frost patterns. I tore it down after that.

This has me worried if I created the potential for heat transfer from the direct contact. More heat transfer means more ice dams.

I did some research online and found that my style of roof should not be vented? Now I'm extra confused because my home inspector told me to install these so thought I would ask Reddit.

1.) Is okay to cram loose fill insulation at the base of the baffle to seal the remaining gaps?

2.) Does the baffle have to span the entire truss to leave a complete gap between the insulation and the roof sheath?

3.) Is it okay for the newly blown insulation be flush with the roof sheath around the baffle? (4 to 6 ft?

I am open to any feedback and advice

This is an example of how mine look, but I have a much much lower slope.
