Bookmatched Poplar Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers

Beautiful Bookmatched Poplar

With a few recycled speakers from an old iPhone iHome unit, a bit of poplar, some Sandalwood Oil, tape, amplifier, and Bluetooth receiver; what we have is a pair of great sounding Bluetooth bookshelf speakers.

This pair will be powered by ye ole 12v3a wall wort but I will include instructions for a 3s (3battery) rechargeable battery pack.

The volume of each box is optimized by some some desktop software. You can find dimensions for for your speaker enclosures easily online as there are dozens of calculators for just this purpose.

Each box will be comprised of six sides. All according to the dimensions laid out by your calculator. There are several ways to construct a box, but I have gone the route of making the front, rear, and two sides; each with edges tapered to 45 degrees, so each matches wonderfully to its neighbor. After the sides are attached and glued into position, I measured and cut the tops and bottom plates for each box.

Before assembly I soldered my small 15w+15w amplifier to the Bluetooth receiver, and power to both.

I then mounted the speakers onto their respective pieces of poplar (chosen because I found the most beautifully grained poplar at my local Lowe’s)

Once mounted the boxes 45 degree edges were glued and then clamped/taped together. Followed by the tops/bottoms.

Will list parts/sources, additional pictures later this weekend.
