Trying to find a sliding patio door handle w/lock

I'm finding it hard to get an exact match to the type of patio door I have to match the correct handle. Trying to avoid headache of it not fitting site unseen. What measuremtnts of the door/lock/thickness should I be looking for? Besides taking to handle off and matching at a big box how can I buy one online to get exact match? Please don't tell me to just bring it to big box. I would rather have more choices aka online. Thanks.
