I've got a list of lumber for a few projects, and I'm trying to avoid home improvement stores - mostly out of respect for the workers during Covid. I totaled up my purchases and it comes to over $1k in lumber. I also have a few neighbors who need similar amount of lumber. What is customary way builders submit pricing requests to local lumber yards, builders supply, etc.? Will they compete, or are they typically more competitive that retail big box outlets? Is it less expensive to buy in a 'bundle' like a pallet - what quantities are ordered? Is delivery typically available? Just curious as the only way I've ever purchased lumber was going into a retail store and just picking off the rack. Thanks.
