Need help with very old ceiling fan wiring, photo included.

I’ve watched a couple YouTube videos and all the wires are attached via wire nuts. Here the wires go directly into the depths of the fan. Can I just cut the ceiling wires and call it a day? My next fixture will be a hanging light.
