Looking to buy my first home and most in my price range are quite old. How much should I worry about asbestos?

A lot of the homes I’m looking at are built before 1980, and quite a few of them are century homes. I’m considering putting in a condition of asbestos testing in my offer. In my area of Ontario asbestos testing from a local lab costs about $30 per sample and $100 per sample for vermiculite. How do I know if I need to do testing, and if I do, what I should be testing. It seems like testing a home for asbestos could cost me thousands.

I would appreciate any info whatsoever.
