Our house was built in 1978 and is two story. The heat pump we currently have was installed in 93 and doesn’t function properly. Before I replace the furnace I would like to replace all the air ducts. All of the ducts on the second floor run through a drop ceiling in the kitchen/eating area on the first floor and come out of the floor on the second story. Eventually, when we remodel the kitchen I am going to raise this ceiling.
I would like to switch the registers so they come out of the ceiling and ducts run through the attic. I already have an area where I can get through to attic to do this.
My questions is, how do I know what size ducts and registers I need to put in each room? Is there a calculator I can use that will tell me what size to drop down to after a certain amount of feet etc?
I plan on having a professional install the furnace once I get all of the duct work done. Just trying to save money on the ducting.
