I've read many posts in r/DIY about using rustoleum high heat spray paint to modernize the brass trim on a fireplace. What I haven't seen consistent advice on is how/if to scuff or scour the surface before applying the paint. I've read/watched tutorials that range from doing nothing, to using scotch-brite pads, to various grits of sandpaper and sponges. Is there an authoritative answer on this? I want to take my time and get it right! Thanks.
