Thoughts on how to cut out the letter "O"?
I have several boards that I need cut the letter "O" out of (One "O" per board).
Does anyone know the best way to consistently cut the same shape out? The "O"s would be stacked on top of each other. I thought of printing the letter out, then taping the paper to the board and cutting it, but that seems like a lot of wasted paper - let alone a lot of room for error.
Is there a technique someone has used before? Thanks!

Convert hardwire light to plug-in?
I want to convert an indoor light fixture from being hardwired to having a regular plug. The light fixture has a regular lamp-type wire coming off it and then a separate exposed ground wire running along side it. Can I just cut the ground wire off and wire it to a regular 2-prong lamp plug? Do I need to use a 3-prong plug with the ground wire? It's something like this.... [link] [comments] |

Question about C-Wire at the Furnace.
Hi, I just bought a smart thermostat and based on what i'm seeing i need to switch off furnace at breaker, hook up the blue wire (common wire) that is wrapped around the wire in the picture in the C-spot for each thermostat at the furnace, then install smart thermostat with all five wires, and then switch furnace back on at breaker. The prior thermostats were battery run. Am i missing anything? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Electrical question about smart light switch
I'm trying to replace a simple (not 3-way) light switch with the Lutron Caseta Smart Switch (non-dimmer version). The instructions differentiate between the hot and load wire.
My wires are both black (instead of black and red), and I don't have a device to test the wires. I've been doing some reading and watching videos, and some seem to care about figuring out which one is the hot one and which one is the load one.
So I'm curious: 1) Does it really matter? Some articles say the hot wire term is used interchangeably with load wire and line wire. 2) If it does matter, what happens if I accidentally connect the wrong wire to the Smart Switch? Does the light just not work or do I run a risk of an electrical fire or some other issue?
Thanks!

Question about adding lights to a shed
I want to add a light to the interior of a shed. There are a ton of outlets, I think it was a grow room in the past. I want to add a light that plugs into an outlet, but I need to add a switch to control the light. I'm not exactly sure how to wire the switch to the outlet, or convert an outlet into a switch that controls the only the outlet for the light. Advice please.

Toilet isn’t getting water flowing in after bidet installation?
Hi. I installed a bidet on my toilet yesterday, said it was pretty easy to install online. I screwed it right onto my toilet in-line, o had to redo it like 3 times because the pieces weren’t sitting tightly and it was leaking. Eventually though I got it to where it was working and the toilet was flushing well.
All seemed good for about an hour then I realized that the toilet would not stop running, and there was a small leak on the floor (really just like a trickle). I had to go to bed though so I figured I would deal with it in the morning.
The next morning the toilet was not running at all. It is behaving like the valve is shut off but the valve is not shut off. If I pour water into the tank I can still flush it but that’s all.
Could this be the bidet? Or is it probably that I knocked something askew in the toilet tank? I want to tinker with it but I’m afraid of messing it up more. Any advice?

How do i clean paint stains off colored concrete
Just had a colored aggregate concrete driveway installed, and then painted the garage floor. When cleaning up, the bag tore and primer went all over the new driveway.
The recommended solvent (acetone) was used to get as much off as possible, but some has seeped into the unsealed concrete.
Is there a way to get the remaining paint stains out of the driveway?

New Solar Technology
This is my very first reddit post. I heard there is newer solar technology. I had Tesla install 8.2KV array on my house in California. I did a DYI project 2KV array with inverter and battery backup for emergency power when the Grid broke down. That was with the older technology 10 years ago. I want to DYI a new 14KV solar array for my Texas home. Has anyone found the new technology and where I can purchase panels, inverters and batteries?

Common board pvc board question. DIY table top workspace
I want to build a cheap table top/desk to use as a crafting station. It needs to be inexpensive but sturdy, and I need it to fit a small space. I can’t find anything online in my price range that fits my size requirements. So I’ve been thinking of making my own. I have two short cube-style shelves that I thought about using as “legs” of a work station. I don’t want to lay plywood on top because it won’t be smooth enough for what I need. It will also have splinters and be very unattractive. So I’ve been browsing on the Home Depot and Lowe’s website and found something called common board PVC board. I found some boards that are 3/4 of an inch thick and 7 3/4 inches wide that I can cut to 3 1/2 feet long. If I lay these boards side-by-side will they work as a table top?
Please keep in mind that I am not an engineer, I have very limited tools, and I’ve never built anything like this before. I typically only build IKEA furniture. But I would like a workstation in my small space that will work for sewing, crafts, and some storage. I would love any ideas you may have. do you think this material will work as a table top? If not, do you have any other suggestions? I’m anxious about going into a home improvement store and asking these questions because I always feel like I don’t belong there.

Framing opening for barn door help
Planning to install a barn door on an opening as pictured here: https://imgur.com/a/T3ECDsT. the opening is 34.5 in x 92 inches. I plan to install a header across the opening and securing to 2x4s on both sides.
At the same time I want to not have an ugly opening on the top of the barn door and wanted to frame the opening properly. Looking at some examples looks like the general pattern is to have jack studs and headers https://imgur.com/a/asWpWRP. Since there would be no load on the header, is there an easy way to frame the door opening than having to build an entire frame?
