Advice on working with natural wood

I have a pretty unique project: I want to turn a hollow tree in my woods into a “kissing booth”. I have been scraping out the rotten wood inside and hope to sand it down tomorrow. Ideally, I would like to paint it, but I would like to fill in the big cracks first. What should I use that will work well out in the weather?
