Hi all, I just finished building the below still tower for my daughter (first pic). I want to add a length of 1x3 at the back which can swing open and closed (to keep her from falling out or getting in). I plan on attaching a hinge on one side and a lock on the other, similar to in the second picture but I don’t know if I’m supposed to shorten the length somewhat to account for the rotation of the 1x3 when it swings open.
The space between the vertical 1x2s on the side is 13” (so 13.75 OC). Should I cut the back piece at 13” or shorten it to let it swing open? If I should shorten it, by how much?
Appreciate anyone’s help!
