Running electrical wire behind cedar siding

I'd like to install some exterior lights and possibility outlets along an outside wall that does not have any existing wire nor receptacles.

There is not any feasible way to run wire inside this wall or on the interior of the house.

I have plenty of 12/2 romex and conduit, as well as some metal clad 12/2.

A local electrician told me that I would be able to run the MC cable under the cedar siding, although, given information I've read online I am skeptical.

Does anyone have any insight regarding running MC cable under cedar siding, or any different suggestions how I can accomplish this?

I am located in Pennsylvania.
