I live in a townhouse where the main floor is the second floor (kitchen, living room, etc.), 15 steps up from ground level. My mother is a senior who has had much trouble getting around due to arthritis. She does some walking where she is now, but a lot of it is assisted with a walker and some transport is with a wheelchair.
I'd like to have her visit my home since she's never been, and may never get to without the confidence she needs (she's out of state and I've recently moved)... but she'd need to get around, at least to the second floor for a worthwhile trip, and it would help a lot if she were able to visit with less inherent fear of being able to climb 15 steps without falling or tiring.
I know there are existing stair systems out there, but they seem fairly permanent, super expensive and time consuming to outfit a home where they'd live. Is there some sort of harness or a pulley system that's available or does anyone have any ideas for building something out that are temporary to assist a senior getting up a flight of stairs? At least something to assist one other person to help her up? It would mean a lot to us both for the holidays.
