Hello, I'm an avid DIYer and I've built barn doors before but always for a pantry or closet so I've only ever built to show off one side, I've had the frame or pattern built and then the backing is straight boards basically glued and screwed together with pocket screws to make it looks pretty from one side and kinda ugly on the other.
I'm planning this time to build a door for an entranceway and need it to have the nice cross pattern in both sides but using 1x6 lumber this will mean 3 board thickness (2 1/4 inches) and a pretty heavy door.
I'm looking for input from other experienced people. Is it possible to get cheap boards that are .5 inch thick instead of 3/4 (as the case with 1x6). I usually use framing lumber but it doesn't seem to come in this size and I don't have a planer to modify the boards myself.
Anyone have other tips on how to achieve a beautiful barn door with pattern on both sides?
