i’m customizing a mug for my father for christmas, and i’m unsure what clay to use.

my idea for the mug is to paint a design of a deer and maybe a his name or a hunting-related quote. but i also want to sculpt the mug’s handle to look like a deer’s antler.

in order to ensure the paint stays on the mug, i’ll be cooking it.

but baking clay can’t be used to sculpt the handle, because i don’t want to have to cook it a second time, after i’ve painted everything, because i feel like that’s unsafe. and air-dry clay doesn’t seem like it should be cooked?

is there an easier way to do this? the only idea i can think of is using apoxie sculpt but i don’t want to spend that much money.

i suppose if worse comes to worse i won’t do the antler thing, but it feels like an important part of the project.
