Refinishing an exterior door

Our front door is stained dark brown. It’s got a southern exposure. The bottom half is starting to show that it needs refinishing.

So the question is if I sand the door down to re-stain it will the color be consistent from the top to the bottom? Do I need to strip all the old stain off the whole door?
