2+ months ago I finished coating my roof with a UV reflective silicone coating, paying a premium over a traditional elastomeric coating which needed to be done. I was hoping to reduce my power bills, and I think it’s working.
Actually I know it is as the house is more comfortable more of the time, and the AC is not running 20 hours a day. And my wife’s even commented that she feels a change. That is huge.
Granted, weather has been a bit cooler this year over last, I’ll pull some figures later, but also the AC is a bit older and less efficient (they claim a SEER unit is lost every year) and I think we are running it a degree cooler at night because we can now. So it’s not exactly a level comparison but that would be hard to do.
But I’ll take $100+ a month savings as a win on the job. I am still tracking longer term AC use by hour and power use in total of course.
