Why I Built this Project

I wanted a place for a nice plant in our living room as well as a good spot to store our "coffee table books".   I love simple projects and using common boards!

• Easy to build, it only took me one hour start to finish

How I Built this Project

Make sure you pick out nice straight boards.

Make cuts according to the cut list.

Attach first 2 long pieces with glue and nails. Make sure you're working on a flat level surface.

Measure and mark shelf placement and attach with glue and nails. I marked the inside and outside of the two uprights to make sure I didn't miss nailing as well as clamped in place once positioned correctly.

Attach front leg, I attached the top first and then checked for level on the lower shelf. Use glue and nails.

Fill nail holes, sand and finish with paint or stain!

Double Large Console - Dog Crate Furniture

Why I Built this Project

My niece has a small apartment with two large dogs.  She wanted a more attractive solution than a plastic kennel, and also wanted to be able to use the top surface as a tabletop and to support a large tv.

They also wanted an open bottom so plastic pet trays could be easily slid under (and out) if needed for cleaning.

Why We Love this Double Dog Crate Furniture 

• Much more attractive than a metal or plastic kennel
• Top is useable as a tabletop surface
• Easy to clean and use
• Double design for two dogs saves space and while keeping dogs separated
• Easy to customize color and size to match desgin
• Surprisingly lightweight for how large the project is
• Very sturdy

Two Month Calendar Shelf with Key Hooks and Mail Organization

Why I Built this Project

CALENDAR VISIBLE TO ALL FAMILY MEMBERS - With 3 kids in sports and other extracurricular activities, I needed a place where we could all be on the same page. I use my phone calendar, but this is a great way for other family members to add their schedule so everybody can see it while planning out the month ahead.  It's always visible to everyone in the home, so we are literally on the same page!

CHANGING MONTHS - When months change, it's easy to just rotate the calendars upward, and set up the next month's calendar, since it's a dry erase board.

KEY ORGANIZATION -The added hooks are perfect for hanging keys for the multiple drivers in our household, all in one place.

MAIL ORGANIZATION - We always have mail laying on the counter, so this sorter has cleaned up the cluttered counter too!

Simple 1x4 Jewelry Organizer Shelf

Why I Built This Jewelry Organizer

I live in a rental and am not able to hang things on the wall but needed a place to organize my jewelry so my necklaces weren't constantly tangled up. I came up with this countertop organizer for all the pretty little things and it has made picking out my jewelry for the day so much more fun! After building it, I have decided to build more to give as gifts.

 

How I Built This Project

Here's how I built this jewelry organizer using 1x4 boards,  some 1x2s and pegboard - all scrap wood I had leftover from various projects!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Building Tips

• I predrilled the cup hook holes before staining and adding the back. Make sure you don't go all the way through the top when pre-drilling.
• I used a scrap piece of foam board, wrapped it in burlap(taped it) and set it in the bottom section for stud earring storage.
• The enclosed storage at the bottom is perfect for a little plant or other accessories.
• This plan is easy to modify for size, add shelves, add a dowel for bracelet or watch storage, paint and stain to customize. Lot's of options with this one!

Three Month Easy to Rotate Wall Calendar Shelf

Why I Designed This Project

We've tried so many different calendar ideas - from paper calendars, to giant desktop paper calendars - I tried syncing electronic calendars, and wall mounted dry erase.  Nothing ever solved all the problems and was easy to use.

Yesterday, I was out shopping and saw 14" x 14" square dry erase calendars on the shelf.

And the project just came to me, right there in the store aisle.  I could see it, see how it worked, I knew exactly to build. 

Twelve board feet of 1x6 and four board feet of 1x3, and eighteen screw later, I built this!

 

Why this is the Best Wall Calendar System Ever

We've struggled for years with so many different calendar ideas and products.  Here's why this calendar is the best system we've ever had:

• Calendars set on a shelf, so can be easily removed to edit and change
• 3 month calendar, so you are able to add events and plans to the next month, and the month after, without having to take notes, flip pages or other hassles
• Easily transition to the next month by simply removing the top calendar and erasing, then moving the two lower calendars up, and then adding the now blank calendar to the bottom, preserving all your plans and appointments
• Displayed clearly on the wall for all to see at all times
• Beautiful solid wood design adds a decor element to your space
• It's only one thing to hang - not multiple items to hang
• Narrow profile fits in narrow spaces, even the side of the fridge
• Shelf is big enough to hold the dry erase markers
