Building and Testing this Plan
This plan was built and tested by us, here's how we built it -

First, you take the two arm rests, and attach legs to them with the self tapping screws. You build two identical leg sets per bench.

Then on the back side, you add these leg supports pieces. For all these joints we used 2-3/4" self tapping star bit screws.

Here's the leg sets done.

Now the back rest supports are added to the inside of the leg supports. There will be more attachment points in later steps, for now, just getting the back support placed.
You can see the center bottom support that goes between the two legs attached too.

Then I added the 2x6 back boards

Followed up by the seat boards.

This is a great firepit bench that you can leave out - it's heavy enough to not blow away, It's made like a deck so will stand up to some elements, and its comfy and roomy enough to enjoy a fire. I do like that more upright seating (as opposed to using Adirondack chairs) as we are always leaning into a fire (instead of away from it).
